Roy's Wish

93-year-old, Roy’s wish was to attend an AZ Diamondbacks game with his extended family. Roy is a fan of many sports, yet baseball is favorite. Dating back to his youth when he played outfield and through the years watching MLB, he plays close attention to the D-Backs each season.

Roy is a retired military police officer of the U.S. Army, who served our country during WWII and on the front lines during D-Day. Presented with 4 bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal, WW II Victory Medal and a personal letter of appreciation from former President Obama, he is a decorated and deserving senior. He is a proud father of 11 children born and adopted to him and his late wife. Diagnosed with end-stage CHF and COPD, Roys says, “I’m going to fight this to the end.”

On July 8, 2013, Bucket List Foundation partnered with the D-Backs and Mariposa Limousine to grant Roy’s wish. He and 30 of his family members met former MLB World Series Player, “Gonzo” Luis Gonzalez and D-Backs players, Paul Goldschmidt (#44 Infielder), Didi Gregorius (#1 Infielder) and Aaron Hill (#2 Infielder) and LA Dodgers, players Matt Kemp (#27 Outfielder), Hanley Ramirez (#13 Infielder), and Yasiel Puig (#66 Outfielder). During batting practice, each one autographed a baseball and his jersey and during the game, Roy was recognized for his service on the jumbo-tron; additionally, honored with a game ball and baseball bat presented to him during the game from LA Dodgers, Yasiel Puig.

A special thank you to our own BLF volunteers, Mary and Bethanie for escorting and ensuring this wish was a success and to the D-Backs executive team and Mariposa Limousine for your continued support of our mission. Finally, thank you, Roy for your service to our country many years ago which gives us the freedom we all have today. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to be a part of your life, your family and your wish. May the special memories of this evening live long after this wish.
